I’m pretty sure I have the best job on the planet. OK, I did have to work “late” yesterday. Technically, we were out until about 8:15 or so. But let’s talk about the “out” part. We spent part one of our session at Boothe Park. And it was perfect: evening light, cool old buildings, and even that idyllic summer breeze - just enough to take the edge off of the humidity. Then we made our way south to Short Beach for a spectacular sunset, sand in our toes, and long island sound scenery. But wait… It gets better. Let’s talk about the “we” part now. First, I had a super assistant, Karissa (one of our fab Model Reps). It was great having her along - not only is she very capable (and she can carry the heavy stuff too), but she can sympathize with my subjects when I ask them to stand or sit in a spot that looks like it might contain something that could give you the swine flu because she’s probably been there! Next, there was Jenine. I was going to say that Jenine is one of those “cool” moms (and she is!) but as an overall characterization, I think cool comes up a little short. Genuine is a better fit. It was her relaxed and positive demeanor that set the tone for the session from the minute it started. And last, but certainly not least, there was Kayla. Now, I could write an awful lot about how much fun it was to work with Kayla. But if the cliche holds true and a picture is worth a thousand words, then here is my two thousand word statement about the amazing time I had photographing Kayla.

So, we had some wicked thunderstorms tonight! And I love severe weather. If we’re going to get more precipitation, it might as well be on the extreme side (ie: hail, wind, lightning, thunder, etc.). Anyway, around 8:30 the light was just spectacular: all surreal and glowy. I grabbed the camera and headed down to Long Beach to see if I could find something interesting to photograph. It was like a laser light show. The storm seemed to stretch out in a semi-circle, from Milford out across the sound and then back towards NYC. Lightning pulsed across vast expanses of sky and converged into massive bolts that would blast down (far away from where I was setting up my lightning rod/tripod). Then there was the fireworks show going on in Norwalk (I think). And the wind kept the bugs at bay. All in all not a bad night to be at the beach. Hope everyone got through the storms unscathed!

These two were just too much fun!! Their mom is a long time family friend and it was great to reconnect and spend some time with her two boys. We had a perfect day - warm weather and sunshine and I got to explore a little around the new diggs in Stratford. It definitely gave me a good case of spring fever! Patrick (aka Batman) was kind enough to share his pretzels and invited me to a sleep over. Jim (aka Superman) was very close to being faster than a speeding bullet (or at least my shutter speed!) - it’s hard to stay focused when it looks like your subjects are having such a good time running around that you want to join in! Joey - thanks for all the help - I had a blast! Hope you like the pics and we’ll see you soon!!!

It seems like a very long time since my last post. I know the blog has been silent - but we’ve been extremely busy and A LOT has happened since December. We’ll get into all that as we start out the new season. But here’s some news I’m really excited about…

At the end of last year, I was working on a personal project and one of our clients mentioned that I should check out the Easton Arts Council. I visited their site just before their annual Regional Juried Photography Exhibit. The exhibit showcases scenes of Easton. Well, I was photographing fall foliage around the Maple Row farm area (where we were living at the time) and while the images weren’t exactly your traditional landscape/scenic type photographs, I decided to enter the two I had at the time. And guess what?! I won first place!!

But wait! There’s more! Fast forward to the last week in March and a long time friend of ours from Fairfield cut out an article about the First Annual Fairfield Museum Photography Exhibition and passed it on to me during a visit. I was immediately interested because two photographers (Stephen Wilkes and Eric Meola) whose work I really really enjoy were on the jury panel. At the end of last week, I was notified that two of my images were selected!! The exhibit will be on display from April 25th to June 7th and you can get all of the details here.

Here’s a preview of some the images and you can click here for more. BTW - it’s good to be back!!!

Crew models, they were just fantastic to work with. Will was a great sport and put up with me running him in and out of the house (to try and keep us all warm!), around the yard and even down to the Penfield Pavilion. Riley was such a doll and without even trying she just made it happen! Do they come any cuter than that?! Happy Holidays to you both (and mom and dad too!) and Best Wishes for the New Year!

Jenny’s session was a bit of a milestone - I think I can safely say that she was the final senior session of 2008. And while mother nature threw all of her usual late season curve-balls at us (bitter cold, biting wind, fast setting sun), Jenny took it all in stride. She was a complete natural in front of the camera and an absolute pleasure to photograph. Add in a great personality, stunning green eyes and a brilliant smile and you’ve got all the ingredients for some gorgeous images! Jenny - best of luck this year and thanks for helping us end the 2008 senior season on a high note!
